Discover linen canvas in many variations.
The linen canvas in our assortment is made of one hundred percent linen. A universal primer makes it possible to paint the canvas with both oil and acrylic, tempera or mixed colors. Only in weight and structure the products differ from each other:
- Linen KR: approx. 310 g/m², fine, smooth structure.
- Linen LR: approx. 390 g/m², medium structure
- Linen MR: approx. 400 g/m², strong structure
- Linen QR: approx. 420 g/m², weaker structure with high weight
The popular linen LR is also available in special variants, on the one hand as oil linen, on the other hand in natural look. The natural linen canvas is not provided with a light, but with a transparent universal primer, so that the natural color of the linen can be effectively incorporated into the picture. The oil linen, on the other hand, has a special primer for oil paints.
The right linen canvas for every need
Thanks to the universal primer, the linen canvas can be painted with any color. However, those who prefer to dip the brush in oil paint are well advised to use the oil canvas, because the special primer absorbs oil-based paints excellently. The natural linen canvas with transparent primer, on the other hand, can give a picture special effects and is particularly popular in landscape painting. For example, it can form the background of an atmospheric scene on the beach, with the sand-colored canvas shimmering through.
Not only the primer, but also the structure and weight play a role in the use of linen canvas. For large format paintings, for example, a sturdy canvas with a high weight per square meter is recommended. For finely painted portraits, on the other hand, it is best to use a canvas with a fine texture so that no unevenness stands out.
Linen canvas: canvas made from natural fibers
Linen is a natural product that has been used for centuries to make textiles. For this purpose, the fibers of the flax plant are spun and woven into cloth. In many functions, linen has now been displaced by cotton, but it is in areas such as seafaring and painting that the hard-wearing fiber is still valued today. Linen canvas is very smooth and extremely tear-resistant, which is why artists still like to use it.
