Polyester canvas: robust and flat
Today, no artist would want to do without a good canvas. A flattering portrait, an abstract color composition or a flower still life in luminous splendor - any painting idea can be realized on the painting surface. Traditional canvases made of linen, hemp or cotton are now joined by the robust polyester canvas. The synthetic fibers produce a particularly even and uniform fabric. We offer you the canvas made of synthetic fibers on large rolls, so you can make your own covered stretcher frame in the desired size.
The right painting surface for any color: polyester canvas.
To be able to paint the polyester canvas, it is stretched on stretcher frames. Stretcher bars, which you can also find in our range, are ideal for making the frames. With little effort, you can thus make a covered stretcher frame with the right canvas for you in the required size. However, the bare fabric of a canvas is only suitable for painting to a limited extent. Although some artists use the bare canvas as a structural design element for their paintings, a good primer makes an important contribution to the preservation of the artwork. It preserves the canvas and prevents breaks in the fabric. In addition, a bright primer gives colors additional radiance.
Start right away: The polyester canvases in our offer are already provided with a universal primer, so you can start directly with oil, acrylic, tempera or mixed colors!
Polyester canvas in versatile variants
Our polyester canvases are solid painting surfaces that can be easily stretched onto a stretcher frame. The fine texture of the fabric is great for painting. Even the back of our polyester canvas can be seen thanks to a primer in linen look. Discover the different variants of the canvas:
- Poly LY: approx. 220 g/m², 100 percent polyester.
- Poly OY: approx. 310 g/m², 67 percent polyester and 33 percent cotton
The canvas is delivered in large rolls, so you can cut the right size yourself
Polyester or cotton canvas?
Canvas prevailed centuries ago over wood as a painting surface and has remained consistently popular with artists ever since. While the fabric was initially made of hemp or linen, canvases made of polyester or cotton are also available today. The flexible fabrics make it easy to cover frames. Whether made of polyester or cotton, the covered frames have only a low weight, which also makes them easier to transport. However, the different materials of the canvas also have individual advantages:
- Polyester: due to the artificial production very uniform fibers, long-lasting
- Cotton: natural look and feel, resistant, only little distortion.
Whether the canvas should be made of polyester or cotton is ultimately a matter of taste. In any case, the priming of the fabric makes it perfectly suitable for the same colors and techniques in both cases.
